g_bastion.jpg

A small tower, usually structural used to provide stability to curtain and other castle walls. The bastion jutted out from the main wall, providing castle defenders an improved field of fire. Pictured are two bastions at Pevensey castle. This is a very old section of the castle, dating from Roman times.
